effect of seed priming on seedling growth of sesame (sesamum indicam l.) under salinity stress
Authors
abstract
a pot experiment laid out in factorial arranged in completely randomized design with three replications was implemented to evaluate the effects of seed priming in ameliorating salinity stress in sesame (sesamum indicam l.) during seedling development and the early vegetative growth. factors included five priming treatments : control (non priming) , hydropriming, halopriming with nacl, kcl , cacl2 + 2h2o and five levels of salt stress : zero, 4, 8, 12, 16 ds/m. results showed that the effects of seed priming and salt stress on emergence percentage , time taken to 50% emergence of seedling (e50) , root and shoot length , root to shoot length ratio , dry weight of root and shoot , dry weight of leaf , leaf number and area were significant (p<0.01). as salinity level increased, all measured variables decreased, except root to shoot length ratio. all priming treatments were effective in decreasing salt stress effects. however, the highest emergence percentage and the shortest time to 50% emergence of seedling were obtained from hydropriming. halopriming with cacl2+2h2o was the most effective on main vegetative growth parameters like length and biomass of seedling. the results suggest that seed priming could be a good technique to increase salt tolerance in sesame.

Effect of seed priming with selenium nanoparticles and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria on improving Quinoa seedling growth under salinity stress
Soil and water salinity are the most important problems that limit crop production, especially in the arid and semi-arid regions. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of growth-promoting bacteria and selenium nanoparticle pretreatment on increasing the tolerance of the Chenopodium quinoa plant to salinity. A factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with...

Effect of Seed Priming on Germination and Seedling Growth of the Caper (Capparis Spinosa) Under Drought Stress
Objective: To evaluate the effect of chemical stimuli on germination and seedling growth of Caper (Capparis Spinosa) under drought stress. Methods: Factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with four replicates per treatment were performed. First factor of priming include three levels of acetylsalicylic acid (300, 200 and 100 mg/L), gibberellic acid levels (500, 250 and 12...

full texteffect of seed priming on germination, morphological and physiological characteristics of sesame (sesamum indicum l.) under alkalinity stress
background and objectives: alkalinity stress caused by the alkaline salts such as na2co3 or nahco3 in the soil. alkaline stress affected germination, growth and crop productivity. moreover, the alkalinity stress can directly damage plant growth, alter the availability of nutrients, and disrupt the balance of ions and mineral nutrition. the application of different seed pretreatment methods is o...
full textThe Influence of NaCl Priming on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Canola (Brassica napus L.) Under Salinity Conditions
A laboratorial study was carried out to investigate the effect of NaCl priming on seed germination and seedling growth of canola. Canola seeds were primed with 1% NaCl solution for 24 hours, at 20°C. Then primed and non-primed seeds were irrigated with seven different saline solutions consisted of 0 (control), 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25 and 1.50% concentrations of NaCl. Results indicated that...
